August 2009 (A word about Ben, from a dear friend)
I assume everyone here knows Barbara Perry? I hope so. Barbara is the daughter of the great, late Ben Perry, the man who first introduced me to the concept of sheer gentility in the 1/6 scale hobby. Ben made a gift to me of his very first ever 1/6 scale Western saddle after we became acquainted through my query to him about one of his Civil War saddles. He was bigger than life, and, in my opnion, was one of the greatest people the 1/6 scale world has ever been privileged to know. I know many other people share this opinion. Ben is very much missed in this hobby.
Anyway, it's SO nice to see you here today, Barbara, and I hope you are doing well. I have Ben's saddles and other tack on display in my house--reminders of my fond memories of your dad.

This is just a little update and thank you for making me the custom saddle (Japanese War Saddle) set last year. It was beautiful and detail. Finally I got time to work on the rest of the costume set included making and attaching the tassels, sculpted the armor plates. Here is the finals look of the whole set.

I was happy to receive the saddle (Custom Zorro Tornado Saddle) you made on Friday 3/16. I do like your work. As I had originally looked at your father's website, I had the measured confidence that if I requested a special saddle to re-create in scale, I could believe that it could be done by Ben's Custom Tack. Your special skill and artistry has confirmed my expectations. I was happy to find examples of the real saddle and was encouraged to send you the limited additional back-up info as a collaboration to help you implement your creative skill. I think the tooling pattern looks good. I like the way you integrated the cover to the base saddle.

GrandDad Charlie, pictured here with Grandmother Christie, was a gentle, quiet man but had quite the exciting past that we kids loved hearing about. He drove cattle up the Chisholm Trail on a brown gelding named Dallas, and I suspect seated in a saddle much like yours. He and Dallas once had to run from a tornado in Oklahoma; “That scared me pretty good.” He taught me how to lasso, but for some reason the two of us were banished outside of the house to practice!
So, as I share these stories I will have your saddle and “Dallas” to help tell the tales.

Phenomenal! These saddles aren't a product, they're a work of art. I have four (so far), each a different style saddle, and all of them feature exquisite craftsmanship. If you can't have or don't want a real horse and full-sized tack, this is the next best thing.

Well, what else could we think but get a racing set for her favorite filly, Zenyatta? We are considering the racing set in black leather. We won’t need a blanket (have silk one). Would you consider creating a black set with a “sheepskin” nose band to equal the cost of the package without a saddle blanket? This would be a birthday gift for the end of February.
